June 1, 2011

Kayla Christopher was born to Terry and Corinne Christopher, in Newark, Ohio, on March 11, 1993.  She is graduating from South Medford High School.  Her favorite book is The Bible (duh, she says Smile) and she really likes “The Hunger Games” series as well.   Her favorite bands are One Republic, Paramore, Switchfoot, Tobymac and 30 Seconds to Mars.  Her favorite movies are Inception and Avatar.  Her favorite youth group memory is “every rafting trip we took!  I loved it the first time with my sisters, Marissa, Gracie, Brian and Whitney.  We all tried to throw each other off the raft, but no one could get Marissa out of her fetal position and into the water!  At the end, my dad paid Cain $5 to push me into the river (not cool dad Smile). It was a blast!”

Her favorite scriptures are “I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.” (Isaiah 42:16)  and “So then, just as you received ChristJesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him,  rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6-7)  In her life, she lists her parents and her friend Liz as the biggest influences on her faith. “They have been there for me through all my ups and downs and given me a firm foundation with God.”  To future graduates she offers this advice: “Go for everything-even when it seems impossible!  Sometimes the best times in life are the journeys  along the way!”  After the summer, Kayla will be attending Harding University where she wants to major in Human Relations or Nursing.  May God bless all your future Kayla!

Gabriel Liles graduated from the Liles Institute of Higher Education.  He was born to Steve and Diane Liles in Canby, Oregon, on December 12, 1992.  Some of his favorite music is by Flatfoot 56 and The Newsboys.  His favorite book and movie is the “The Princess Bride.”

Philippians 4:13, which says “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength” is Gabriel’s favorite verse of scripture.  His favorite youth group memory is the first time he went to Portland to work with the PUMP mission trip.  He will never forget having fun at night and running right into the doorframe with his head!  When asked who has greatly influenced his spiritual life he says “Lance Lake.  I have always felt a connection with him.”  To future seniors, Gabriel offers this advice: “Always party…but within your boundaries…and don’t forget to invite me Smile!”  His plans now include finding a good job and saving for a few years for college.  We wish you all of God’s best in your life Gabriel!

Amber Parker graduated from Crater High School.  She was born to Doug and Toni Parker in Medford, OR, on July 22, 1993.  In her spiritual life she says “In this past year I’ve grown in my faith and Bob Stapp has helped be a part of that.  He was a big influence in my life.”  Her favorite memory with the youth group was “the year with all of the lightning storms.  I remember hanging out with my friends at the upper pond.”  Her favorite band is Big and Rich.  Her favorite book is a series called “The Uglies Series.”  Her favorite movie is called “Just Go With It.”

To future seniors, Amber says, “stay strong in your faith and don’t follow the worldly example.  It never adds up to what God can give you.” John 3:16 is her favorite Bible passage. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life”  This summer she looks forward to going to her last Church Camp.  In the fall she will attend York College on a soccer scholarship.  May God bless your future richly Amber!

Whitney Thomas was born in Medford, OR, on June 28, 1993, to Roger and Wynter Thomas.  She is a graduate of Crater High School.  Her favorite youth group memory is “spending an incredible week at camp a few years back.  At the girls’ Bible study we ended by joining hands and praying and you could literally feel God right there with us.”  She loves all music and her favorite movie is “The Princess Bride.”  The Bible is her favorite book and her favorite verses from it are Psalm 118:14 “The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation” and Isaiah 40:28-31 “Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

In her life, she says that her Mom and her “Ganny and Papa” (a.k.a. Wydie & Larry Denn) have had the biggest impact on her faith.  “They have taught me the word of the Lord and have been examples every day of how a child of God should live.”  Whitney advises future seniors to “try not to procrastinate! And live for the Lord.”  She plans on attending SOU in the fall and then becoming a High School Spanish teacher.  We wish you all of God’s blessings Whitney!

Congratulations to all of our graduates for a job well done!
We are  all proud of you!
