Let Us Be Children of Peace and Love
I just got to take my family to the National Civil Rights Museum. It is housed on the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN, where Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot. Needless to say, it was incredibly moving. We shed tears as we looked at an ugly blight on our nation's history. My children were confused. This type of hatred was foreign to them. We were able to explain a lot. Some things, they simply could not grasp. It was a great opportunity to reinforce the teachings we have tried to give them on the equality of men, and how EVERYONE was made in the image of God, and loved by God!
We watched a film on the assassination. We were able to stand at the balcony where he was slain. We sat on a bus that Rosa Parks was arrested from. We saw remnants of Mississippi burnings and lynchings. We saw about school integration and the ugly violence that resulted. It was A LOT to take in. It was very emotional. It was a powerful time.
As I walked in silence through the many exhibits, I was struck by an overwhelming sadness. I was overcome with many questions. But the most prevalent was: HOW? How did mankind get to this? How does someone know such hate? How does such an evil enter society? And how is it that, it will never go away?
I was struck by how sad it made me, and how much more sad it must make our Father in heaven. He said that He gave his son FOR ANYONE to believe in. There was no race distinction. May we, as God's children, never forget this. May we set aside all nationalities and loyalties and submit to God alone first and foremost! We submit to God! And God is good all the time. Let’s be children of peace, love, justice and mercy, so that the whole world may see His love.
