Merry Christmas
and a
Happy New Year
from the staff at West Main Church of Christ
Terry, Brian, Lorraine, Doris, Charlie & Kevin
To: Members of West Main
The West Main Church of Christ is very interested and focused on meeting the needs of people in all stages of life and who live in very difficult circumstances. As Christians we love people and want to help them in whatever way that we can. We also live in a time that we can come into contact with people who are only interested in fulfilling their own desires without any concern for the well being of others. We need to be aware of these people and use wisdom when we come into contact with them. The church building is located in a section of the city where there is a high crime rate, a large population of people who abuse substances, and people who may be homeless. We do need to be aware of our own personal safety and take some steps to protect ourselves from those that may wish to harm us. Members who arrive at the building early in the morning or late in the evening are at a greater risk. The risk increases if you are alone. Because of the increased risk it is wise to implement some basic safety practices to protect ourselves when we need to use the building at odd hours.
We recommend following these steps when arriving at the building when you are alone or at odd hours:
Drive around the building looking for people sleeping or camping in the bushes around the building, under the awnings or in the door ways. If you notice someone in these areas who does not belong there, drive away from the building.
From a safe location call Brian Pannell, if he is not available call Terry Christopher. Both of these men are willing to come to the building to investigate and deal with whatever the situation may be.
Do not return to the building until they have arrived and had a chance to speak with the people who are there.
If Terry or Brian are not available, call 911. West Main Church of Christ has a no trespassing agreement with the city and the police will be able to ask whoever is there to leave the area.
If you are in any doubt about your safety leave the building and do not return until a later time.
For the Elders, Dan Beeks
Elder/Deacon Selections -- We are rapidly approaching the completion of the leadership selection process. The proposed men who were brought before you are Terry Christopher, Stephen Liles, Grant Newton, and Bud Rennels. Darren Dixon desires and is willing to serve as a deacon.
On Sunday, January 5th, the congregation will be provided with an elder/deacon selection form. We ask that each of you, who are members over the age of 18, participate in the selection process. The form will allow you to affirm your approval of each man or if you cannot affirm your approval, you may leave the space blank. You will also be given the opportunity to affirm your approval of the men that presently serve as elders or if you cannot affirm your approval you may leave the space blank. The Elders are asking that these forms be turned into them by January 19th. These forms will remain confidential with the elders.
We are presently anticipating that on February 2nd the new elders and deacons who are selected will be confirmed and installed during the morning service.
