SUMMER OF LOVE
Summer is almost upon us! As you know we like to change things up a bit here at West Main during the summer months. With warmer weather and longer days, we have the opportunities for special fellowships and fun events. As usual we like to work with a particular theme to characterize our time together. This year’s theme is, “A Summer of Love: Love God and Love People.” Our theme is inspired by Jesus’ words to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these” (Mark 12:30-31).
In support of our biblical theme on love our sermons will focus on three types of love. Each month of the summer (June through August) will deal with marital love, brotherly love, and love of others. In addition, our combined adult Bible classes will discuss the significance of “God is love” (1 John 4:16). We will wrestle with some fundamental questions concerning God’s love. We will ponder questions such as, “Is God’s love different than human love? How do we know, feel, think, and distinguish between God’s love and any other kind of love? How is human love dependent on God’s reconciliation? What does it mean to love our enemies? How do we love creation, the arts, music, and culture? Why is God’s love tied up with sacrifice and death?” The previous questions are just a few of the topics we will be exploring throughout the summer months.
Along with our sermons and Bible class, we will also have a number of fellowships. We have a number of our young people getting married this summer and so there will be a few congregational wedding showers to celebrate these marriages! We will gather together to laugh, share marital wisdom, and rejoice with how God is making two become one in Jesus Christ.
We will also have a few Friendship Sundays with themed potlucks following morning service. There are a couple of sing nights, family fun nights, service projects, and time at Emigrant Lake! All these events with their corresponding dates will all be in our summer booklet soon to be released.
We are seeking to promote the love of God and the love of people. May these upcoming months be a summer of love!

Vacation Bible School is July 21-25 -- July may seem a long way off, but it will be here sooner than you think, so we need to plan ahead and be ready for it! Our theme this year is: Kingdom Rock - Where Kids Stand Strong for the Lord, and is for kids who have finished Kindergarten through 6th grade.
We will need teachers, food items, help with set up and clean up, carnival booth help and prizes, help with the gift each child will receive and much more. There are a lot of ways that you can help. If you need more information please contact Denise Beeks.
Coffee Servers are needed for June and July. If you can help, please sign up on the notice posted by the stairs in the East Hallway. All help is greatly appreciated!
